Sometimes it's difficult for companies to quickly and effectively make sense of big problems, generate different design ideas and then gather feedback to validate a direction.

What's involved during a 5-day sprint

A design sprint is typically between 4-5 days, depending upon how complicated the problem is.

Day 1: mapping the problem and understanding the issue, Day 2: generating new ideas and thinking, Day 3: Critiquing and deciding which idea to mock-up, Day 4: Prototype the agreed idea to be tested, Day 5: Gather feedback with real users.

Who's involved and effort required

No-one understands your big problems more than the people in your business, which is why a design sprint team (typically between 4-6) is mainly made up of your product owners, designers, senior stakeholders, customer service experts and developers. Design sprints are typically held at your premises too.

A crucial member of the team is the facilitator, who ensures the design sprint is structured to successfully achieve the required goal. Answer Digital typically embed 1-2 facilitators within each sprint, who are also highly experienced senior Experience Designers to structure problems, provide additional creativity, rapidly build prototypes and conduct reliable evaluative research.
